I had similar dilemma, I searched forums, but could not find a nice Remedy. Than I switched to check some appps, and Kingsoft Workplace and pdf is kind of good. In case you open a whole new pdf file, it will appeae as a whole new tab. And exactly the same with docs, but all unique file tipes are in
